Advanced Screen Printing Capabilities and our expertise for Printed Electronics Applications

At Reid Print Technologies we have very advanced screen printing equipment, suited for large scale printing of printed electronics products.

At our facility we strive to provide end to end solutions to our collaborators and customers, based on their designs and requirements. We believe in co-devolving of printed electronics products and are open for collaborations.

Industrial screen printing of printed electronics products has already gained momentum and we aim to be one of the front runners in bringing this technology to greater reality.

Through a persistent R&D program we have already commercialised products like printed antennas, sensors, circuits and switches. Our ability to precisely surface mount relevant devices onto the printed flexible films has always been an added advantage.

Our hands-on printing and the systematic methodology we follow are described briefly in the diagrams below. We ensure that each step is carefully planned through repeated experimentation to achieve the desired quality of printed film morphology using our existing printing expertise.

Our Collaborators' designs and requirements are thoroughly scoped and carefully implemented by a process of repetitive production and testing.

The Printed Electronics Production Process

Screen Printing is a multidimensional process, it becomes complex when micro to nano level electronics devices are to be printed precise on a flexible or bendable substrates.

At Reid Print Technologies we have years of experience and advanced manufacturing equipment to handle the variants of stencil, inks, screen, off contact and their interactions with the underlying flexible substrates.

Over the years, we have gained expertise in accurate advanced screen printing processes on a wide range of substrates ranging from planar to completely flexible substrates.

The knowledge gained (from screen printing of highly complex graphics like “printed overlay panels over a flexible printed circuit” or of “printing flexible sensors with fully integrated back-lightning and proximity sensors”, etc ) have been utilised in printing electronic products through planned Research and Development activities.

As Printing Electronics uses various conductive, semiconductor and dielectrics inks, we have used our exiting knowledge to handle most of the commercially available printable inks.

The inks viscosity and its differential behavior on PET, PEN and Paper based substrates becomes one the major re searchable areas. Which Reid Print Technologies' Engineers have mastered themselves into and can handle all the possible variation as per the requirement of underlying electronics product.

Through years of expertise we can accurately handle interactions between ink, squeegee, screen and substrates. The accuracy of the printed ink is the function of all of those.

These features differ from Lab level Printing to Industrial level mass printing process. After doing exhaustive research at lab scales, Reid Print Technologies provides solutions to develop products at large industry scale.

One of the many aspects of Printing Electronics using screen printer is to accurately handle distortions caused due to non-uniform Off-Contact ( Gap between bottom of the screen and the platen).

When this kind of deformation gets added to the non-similar pressure on the screen, things will worsen and the will lead to complete deformed features onto the flexible substrate.

This requires expertise acquired from after repetitive experimentation.

Printing and Annealing of Printable Ink to form printed film of desired thickness, roughness with uniformity, is a most challenging task.

Unlike Ink-Jet printing where a drop by drop controlled jetting of ink takes place in screen printing process one has to handle large amount of ink with varied broad and dynamic range of viscosity.

This is possible only by well trained team with dedicated research done about hows of the particular printable ink in its chosen solvent behaves. The annealing of the printed film at pre-determined temperatures after repeated experimentation is most important, at Reid Print Technologies, we have the expertise to ensure that outputs are optimised efficiently.

During the Screen Printing process for electronics applications, one of the most important aspects to take care is the double layer edge-on interactions, which if not controlled will lead development of large amounts of contact resistance.

At Reid Print Technologies we have dealt with the printing of multiple layers of films with control as per need of printed electronics applications for our customers.

At Reid Print Technologies we follow strict design rules to ensure that the film is output to the highest possible DPI and dimensional stability, this ensures that the conductivity of the printed traces will be consistent throught the printed film at the pre-planned level.

Sometimes certain flexible substrates will need an adhesive coating on top of it for the ink to be uniformly distributed, through our researched knowledge base we make the required choices. Pre, Post substrate and printed film curing is the critical and tedious part of the entire process which we are effectively dealing with.

The parasactic capacitance in the printed film plays a major role in hampering the maximum operating frequency of the formed electronics device.

This kind of capacitance might come from both substrate and/or from the conductive films. Determining the levels of such capacitance's during the process of device performance analyses and retrying to reduce those parasitic signals is carried out efficiently by Reid Industrial Electronics Printing Team.
