When a label has to identify equipment, carry a unique serial number, resist fire or survive years in the field, an ordinary sticker will not do. We make high-specification labels, nameplates and decals from defence- and aerospace-grade materials, reverse-printed so the graphics are protected and the label lasts.

From durable outdoor polyester and specialty fire-retardant films to domed badges, rigid nameplates and rating plates, each label is cut, numbered and finished to your exact requirement - with full, ISO-certified traceability.

How a durable label is made

Most of our labels start as MacDermid Autotype polyester, reverse-printed on the second surface. Printing behind the film puts the ink under the hard coat, where it cannot be scratched, scuffed or cleaned off - the same technique that makes our graphic overlays so hard-wearing.

For domed (lensed) labels, a tough clear resin is applied over the print to form a raised, high-gloss dome that both protects the graphic and lifts it visually. Metal and rigid nameplates use durable substrates that stay rigid and will not rust in harsh conditions.

Every label is die or laser cut to your shape and size to engineering tolerances of plus or minus 0.2mm, with optional coloured borders, variable serial numbering, barcodes and corporate branding.

Project Currawong - Field Grounding Kit Labels

For Boeing Australia, Reid manufactured the Field Grounding Kit labels for the Project Currawong transit cases, from durable outdoor industrial-grade polyester film with a 3M low-surface-energy adhesive.

The labels had to survive at least +70°C to -30°C, resist UV, and hold adhesion to a low-surface-energy material through rapid temperature swings - with multiple unique sequential identifier codes printed on each label.

Collins Class Submarine - Fire-Retardant Labels

For SAAB Australia, Reid produced fire-retardant labels with variable serial numbering for the Collins Class Submarine program. The label material complied with standard BSS 7239 (toxic gas testing) - a standard also used in the commercial aerospace and rail industries.

The label sets were manufactured to a plus or minus 0.2mm tolerance, as a batch run of 6,100 labels, each carrying its own independent serial number.

Variable data - every label uniquely identifiable

Variable data printing means the printed content changes on every individual label, so each one is uniquely identifiable - sequential and consecutive numbering, barcodes, QR codes and dispatch data such as address information.

Reid generates the data in-house. Our advanced pre-press software produces a wide range of barcodes, QR codes and complex serial-numbering formats, so you do not need to supply a pre-filled spreadsheet or mail merge - just tell us the number range and barcode format required, and our software does the rest.

And because our enterprise resource software gives 100% traceability of production build materials, inspections, documentation and testing, every serialised label is backed by a full production record - which is exactly why our labels are trusted on defence programs.

A full range of MacDermid Autotype polyester films, polycarbonates and acrylics, specialty fire-retardant materials for defence and aerospace, industrial-grade outdoor vinyl (such as Avery MPI2006), and 3M adhesives including low-surface-energy grades.

In-house manufacturing

Made in our own facility

A large-format industrial flatbed digital printer and six automatic screen-printing machines with inline curing up to 130°C, supported by laser cutting, forme cutting, Projecon thermal embossing and CNC routing - all in our purpose-built 1500 square metre facility.

Can you print variable data - serial numbers, barcodes and QR codes?

Yes. We print variable data so each label is uniquely identifiable - sequential and consecutive numbering, barcodes, QR codes and dispatch data. Our in-house pre-press software generates the sequences, so you do not need to supply a pre-filled spreadsheet or mail merge; just tell us the number range and barcode format required.

What quality certifications do you hold?

Won't the print wear off?

No. We reverse-print (second surface), so the ink sits under the surface and cannot be scratched or cleaned off, and domed labels add a tough clear resin layer over the top. See Graphic Overlays.

Can you make fire-retardant labels?

Yes. We hold specialty fire-retardant materials suited to defence and aerospace. For the SAAB Collins Class Submarine program, for example, our fire-retardant label material complied with standard BSS 7239 (toxic gas testing).

Can you make labels for defence and harsh outdoor use?

Yes. We make durable outdoor labels from industrial-grade polyester with high-performance adhesives, rated to survive wide temperature swings and UV - for example the Field Grounding Kit labels for Boeing Australia's Project Currawong transit cases.
