A silver lining of the Covid-19 pandemic is that companies and governments alike are beginning to see the benefits of supporting the Australian manufacturing industry. Over the past three years, the federal government has undergone significant changes by awarding grants and introducing new legislations in an effort to boost the manufacturing industry. From this, we are seeing a major shift as new entrepreneurial technological advancements are coming to our soil.
Consumer landscapes are a dynamic environment. They are continuously evolving while businesses are adjusting to the new normal. Manufacturers and industrial companies across the world are working hard to maintain and strengthen their supply chains. And companies that preferred to source internationally to save on costs, are seeking other cost-effective solutions. While not only benefiting the local economy, supplying locally now is putting money back in your pocket. Australia is a continuously growing nation with unprecedented potential across all industries. Every day, more businesses are making the switch in their supply chain. Here are some additional benefits your business may need:
Quality Control and Reassurance
It is well known that sourcing materials from overseas may cost less. Although unfortunately with this tyrant, in most cases, these materials are of poor quality and inevitably in the future, your business will have to pay for repairs and or replacement. From a financial standpoint, it costs less to buy a higher quality material once as opposed to buying a poor-quality material two or even three times over.
Faster and Simpler Communication
Sourcing locally has plenty of benefits but being geographically closer to your supplier always takes the cake. Finding an appropriate time to communicate with your offshore supplier can cause communication gaps that will negatively impact the business, further creating lag time for urgent and time-sensitive tasks. If your business is deadline-driven, it is crucial for all your suppliers to be fast and effective communicators.
No Hidden Fees
Foreign regulations, hidden costs, and high logistic fees. What is it? and how can your business avoid it? When sourcing internationally, it is extremely important to read the fine print. Manufacturing regulatory standards are different across the globe therefore, your product could potentially be in jeopardy. Buying stock offshore also comes at a high cost, logistic fees and international taxes can come as a surprise and significantly increase overall product charges.
Secure IP
Keeping your IP secure is crucial for your product to succeed in its market. Sharing confidential information with offshore suppliers can lead to your product being copied and even stolen. Security risks encompass physical product and private data leaks across the board. Outside of copyrights, trademarks, patents, and trade secrets, you can help protect your intellectual property by ensuring your supplier is trusted and has security prevention technologies.

Get in touch with Reid Print Technologies when you develop your next product
We are often asked about our point of difference, the difference that makes Reid Print Technologies stand out from the other suppliers to the printed electronics markets; the short answer is that from its inception Reid Print Technologies has always been a specialist manufacturer of interface products, somewhat of a trail blazer for new products and technologies.
We are not an importer working from a back office nor are we a Nameplate company that just makes overlay panels and membrane switches on the side, our specialty is combining the R&D, knowledge, process capability and management structures to engineer products that integrate a number of printed electronics technologies into a fully functioning plug and play device.
Yes, of course we can offer imported products, we have at our disposal some of the best suppliers in the Asian region, however our roots are with designing and manufacturing Australian made products that you simply can’t order on line. We pride ourselves in the fact that when you deal with Reid Industrial you are supported by dedicated Account Management and Customer Service Teams who are backed by experienced Design Engineers and top notch Production personnel, working from our purpose built manufacturing facility just north of Brisbane.
So whether your next project is a simple prototype label, overlay panel, or a membrane switch technology with all the backlighting technology whistles and bells, all you need to do is send us an email or pick up the phone and we will be back to you anywhere in Australia and NZ within the same day or at the latest the next working day. One of the pleasures of being a specialist manufacturer is having the opportunity to be involved in new projects from their inception through to becoming fully functioning devices. At Reid Industrial Graphic Products we are committed to an R&D program that has over time, created new technologies that have significantly made a difference for our customers.
Over the years we have been involved in many R&D projects undertaken and brought to market; we would like to share one case study with you here.
Industry IQ, a leading electrical engineering company specialising in control systems for moving machines, required an interface device that would allow concrete truck drivers to work at the rear of the truck during darkness.
With the customer working closely with our R&D engineers, the outcome was to manufacture a flat panel membrane switch with tactile domes, backlit using SMD side shining Led’s and incorporating Reid Industrials Light Guide Film technology, for even light distribution across the panel. The project has been successfully released to market and is a win-win for both companies, developed and manufactured at our Clontarf facility.
If you have a printed electronics project that needs our R&D expertise to bring it from concept to market, don’t hesitate to contact out Account Management Team for more information on how we can help you.

Why buying local is better
We have conversations quite regularly with people about buying local versus offshore suppliers and sadly, we often hear the horror stories during these conversations. Stories about incorrect products being delivered, incorrect dimensions, incorrect colours or the product not being what the person expected, and we pretty much have the same answer each time. Whilst offshore suppliers may have their benefits, in our opinion, the benefits of local supply far outweigh any benefits of using offshore suppliers. Here’s why.
Is it really local?
What we’ve found is that in many cases, people don’t actually know where their product is coming from. Just because a sales representative is based locally does not mean that their products are locally made. We’ve had too many discussions with customers where they are not properly informed, or they’re just unaware. Ask the suppliers if their product is produced locally. Make sure you know the facts.
The benefits
Local support & representation
We conduct customer visits to discuss your projects and find a solution. This means that you get to speak directly with our team, face to face, and discuss your requirements in detail. Meeting our team in person means that you know who you are talking to. After visiting your business, we have clear understanding of what you need, with no uncertainty.
Locally manufactured
We have full control over the finished product as we produce it here in our facility. This ensures that what you receive is exactly what you’re after, and if any issues arise they can be addressed quickly, easily and with a faster turnaround on delivery because we’re local. Did you know that we reinvest a minimum of 5% of our turnover into R&D Projects, allowing us to develop new products and collaborate with key customers to utilise the technology to grow their businesses.
Staff
From an ethical perspective, buying locally manufactured products supports our local community, keeping skilled Australians employed. Our staff are all highly trained, and locally based.
Cost
When buying offshore products, you need to consider the cost of freight. Furthermore, if you receive an incorrect item, or a part needs to be replaced, you’re looking at additional freight costs.
